A Trip to the Island and Back
On our way up to Acadia we took a couple days to look around Portland and the surrounding islands in the Casco Bay. In particular, we made a day trip out to Long Island, which I've spent many a week in August exploring by bike and foot with family and friends. It was a perfectly cloudy day to walk around, get rained on, and stick our feet in frigid coastal Maine waters.
Fortunately for us, the coast of Maine is beautiful rain or shine. As other vacationers jumped into island cars or golf carts, we began our walk to South Beach and Fowler's in a drizzle. By the time we made it to the library (half way to the beaches), the drizzle had turned into full on rain. We took the opportunity to take shelter under the porch of the library and eat lunch, which consisted of a box of soup and a box of crackers.
After the rain passed, we strolled down the road to Fowler's, where we enjoyed the beach to ourselves. After a while of rock clambering and sea glass searching we made our way over to South beach (apparently one of the top 10 beaches in Maine) to find my favorite place to skip rocks. A quick test confirmed that it is still definitely the best. It wasn't long before we had to walk on back to the dock to catch the ferry back to town. A short, but sweet, visit in all.
Shout out to Evo Rock + Fitness in Portland for being a generally awesome rock gym!
